Duncan Golf to host neighborhood meeting
Many of you may have received a communication in the mail from Duncan Golf. For those of you that have not, Duncan Golf included in the communication two maps; a Master Plan Map to rezone to Suburban Mixed Use and a Zoning Amendment Map for SPD. Both of these maps now delineate 12.5 acres of the former driving range as the area for the Master Plan and Zoning Map Amendment, while the remaining 142.5 acres of the golf course remain PGOS.
Duncan’s letter postmarked June 28 indicates their proposed amendments, however, at the time of this update and from our communication with the City, it is important to note that no revised application has been submitted. Application LDC25-00061 continues to include all 155 acres to be rezoned from PGOS to SPD. In the previous Latest Update, we noted Duncan Golf has until early August to submit a revised application to be reviewed by the Planning Commission at their early September meeting.
Also included in Duncan Golf’s communication is information on a neighborhood meeting they are hosting. According to the information, this meeting will take place at 5:30 PM on July 8th at the Lakeridge Golf Course Clubhouse. Duncan Golf notes that it was the feedback from the community that resulted in them recognizing the need to “better clarify their intentions.”
We thank all of the community members that sent letters expressing your views to the City Council and Planning Commission. Without your action, Duncan Golf may not have considered revisions to the acreage of their application.
Save Lakeridge will withhold further comment on any proposed changes until the amended application is received by the City, though we remain of the view there is risk in piecemeal development over time. To address this concern, Duncan Golf should look to the long-term and record a restricted deed that does not allow for any development on the Lakeridge golf course into perpetuity. Save Lakeridge is not alone in its view as the City included the following point about a deed restriction in its comments/concerns to Duncan Golf in its preliminary report; “Deed Restrictions: Consider placing deed restrictions on the golf course parcels to ensure the preservation of open space. Staff can more effectively support the intent of the SPD if the golf course and open space are preserved in perpetuity”.
Your continued communication with the Planning Commission and City Council remains important letting them know how you feel about any proposed rezoning of PGOS. We must continue to request the Planning Commission and City Council not to let Duncan Golf queue up a repeat of the Lakeridge Tennis Club debacle!
