City Council vote in favor

City Council has passed an ordinance to approve amendments to the Master Plan and zoning map for the proposed Lakeridge Resort development, with a 5-2 vote. Mayor Hilary Schieve and councilwoman Naomi Duerr were the two that opposed the decision. With these amendments, Duncan Golf Management, the property owner, is permitted to build a resort featuring hotel accommodations, dining options, athletic facilities, a resort-style pool, and outdoor event and meeting spaces. Residents in opposition spoke regarding the overall plan, traffic management, the loss of open space, access and safety concerns regarding Golf Club Drive as the only access road, compatibility with neighboring  communities and land uses, and the alignment with the Master Plan.

After Council discussion, the applicant agreed to place a 25-year deed restriction but objected to the requested water right (upon issuance of a certificate of occupancy for the hotel). The motion was passed, requiring that the existing golf course be protected and operated as an 18-hgole golf course. This approval is contingent upon a Master Plan amendment conformance review by the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Commission and a subsequent tier change approval by the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Governing Board.
