On September 22nd, Duncan Golf submitted its second revision of its application to rezone 12.5 acres from PGOS to SPD. As has been the course of action, the City reviews Duncan Golf’s revised application and then requests further information from the applicant on specific elements of the application, such as the traffic study.
The City and the applicant go back and forth seeking clarification on these matters. Once the City is satisfied with the applicant’s answers and amendments, it prepares a staff report for the Planning Commission. This staff report has yet to be published.
Given the assistant city planner believes this is the application’s final submission, application LDC25-00061 is now tentatively scheduled for the Nov 20th Planning Commission meeting. The agenda is confirmed two weeks before the meeting, so we would expect official confirmation no later than November 6th.
As shared in our last communication, Save Lakeridge’s efforts to negotiate with Duncan Golf did not produce a favorable outcome. Our primary objective was to reach an agreement to protect the remaining 143 acres of golf course from being developed. Despite Duncan’s public comments that the company is creating a golf resort — and that the golf course would remain integral to it — his response to our lawyer’s proposed protection opportunities ended the discussion. The Duncan family is firmly opposed to any measure to protect the remaining acreage from future development.
Following this, Save Lakeridge retained two different lawyers. One of them is now preparing a presentation for the Planning Commission meeting outlining why the application does not meet the necessary Findings of Title 18 of the Reno Master Plan.
During the Planning Commission meeting, Commissioners will review if the application meets all of the Findings of Title 18 of the Reno Master Plan. The Commissioners will vote either to approve or deny application LDC25-00061 to rezone 12.5 acres. The vote tally serves as their recommendation to the Reno City Council.
You can click here to download the Reno Master Plan and you can click here to be taken Title 18 document on the City of Reno website. Attached is a document from Title 18 that outlines the Approval Criteria of the Application, Condition for Approval, the Review Decision process.
Your Voice Matters
It is essential our community of concerned neighbors pack the City Council chambers to show strong opposition to this rezoning and resort development.
Please visit the “What You Can Do” page on the Save Lakeridge website, or click here to learn how to speak at the Planning Commission meeting and share your thoughts on this matter with the Planning Commission.
We had an excellent turnout from Lakeridge residents at the August 18th Ward 2 NAB meeting, and we hope to see even more community members at the Planning Commission meeting.
It is very important to understand that if Duncan Golf’s application to rezone the 12.5 acres is approved, it could open the door for future rezoning of more of the Lakeridge Golf Course.
If this 12.5 acres of PGOS (Public Greenways Open Space) is rezoned, the City will have no recourse to say no next time.
The time to preserve the open space is NOW— by opposing this application on any rezoning or development of this long-standing and iconic golf course.

Duncan Golf bought a golf course — not land to develop a hotel, spa, bars, or restaurants for its guests, all at the expense of Lakeridge residents.
